"I would say that the whole trip was a huge big buzz. An awesome trip, well run but in a relaxed friendly manner - you do not feel that you are a sheep on a conveyor belt. Plenty of laughs, activities and amazing surroundings. Found the countryside awesome (bit like home in some places), enjoyed the people on the trip, and liked the New Zealand people. "

The 25 Greatest Adventure Trips in the World: #9
National Geographic Adventure Magazine - February '03

Here's why people fly so far to hike in New Zealand: A third of the island nation is parkland, and it has just 3.8 million residents. Consequently, hundreds of miles of lightly used trails weave through rugged ranges and untrammeled rain forests. Active New Zealand's 14-day loop is billed as multisport, but most clients opt for tramping around the canyons of Punakaiki, Franz Josef Glacier, the Mount Cook Region, and other South Island beauty spots. Nights are spent in lodges, B&Bs, and a sheep shearer's cabin on a 63,000-acre farm. Read more...

Best Adventure Trips in the World

ACTIVE no single supplement vacations are suitable for women solo travel and all single travellers.

Solo Travel Made Easy in New Zealand

We don’t charge a forced single supplement so we get lots of single travellers
on our New Zealand small group adventures.

Single traveller? No problem – you won’t be alone. We don't run ‘singles trips’ or ‘women solo travel trips’ per se, but lots of our clients, including women, travel alone. In fact, about a quarter of our single travellers might otherwise have been too intimidated to venture into the outdoors on a solo vacation or would be stuck on one of those singles cruises. Instead they’re hanging out with like-minded travellers, enjoying the camaraderie of small group adventure travel, getting as much or as little alone time as they like, and have the safety of an experienced guide working out all those pesky logistical details that can be tricky when you’re travelling alone in a foreign country. And you don’t have to be at the mercy of meeting minimum numbers for day tours and activities – it’s all included.

No forced single supplements

Unlike many other tour operators, we don’t believe in charging you extra for travelling alone. So there’s no forced single supplement if you don’t mind sharing a room or you might even get a room to yourself sometimes. If you prefer not to share a room at all, you can upgrade to a single room.

Women solo travel

We have lots of women single travellers on all of our trips and our guides (many of whom are women) work hard to create a comfortable social group dynamic for everyone. We’d also be happy to put on a private departure or create a custom itinerary if you have a group of women you’d like to travel with.
