Bio: My friends call me "Duck". In a previous life, I trained and qualified as a baker in my family bakery business in Wellington. Then prior to joining Active NZ, I spent several years working as an outdoor guide in the Swiss Alps. Turning my hobbies into my life meant I was able to climb, raft and canyon guide during the summer and ski instruct all winter. While living overseas, I gained a much greater appreciation of how fortunate I am to be a Kiwi, and I am extremely proud to be able to come home and help my clients experience this great land, even if for such a brief moment in time. I've just been travelling in South America and looking forward to another summer in New Zealand! |

What our clients have said:
"Dan is really a great guide, keep him! Very well organized, made the logistics seamless and never an inconvenience to us. He is a great ambassador for NZ, great to have someone who cares for his country and wishes to impart this to visitors. We were a small group, to be sure, but Dan clearly went out of his way to gear the trip to our preferences wherever there was an opportunity to do so - much appreciated. " "Dan did absolutely everything in his power to make sure the trip was great for all of us. He led us in our struggle through bad weather on the Nelson Lakes backpacking trip, carried a pack that weighed at least twice as much as any of ours, woke early to get us ready, drove us everywhere, tracked us down when we rode off course biking (actually, I'm guessing Nat radioed him), kept us on schedule, toted our luggage, and entertained us with snippets of Kiwi cultural knowledge. Honestly, I don't know how he managed to do everything he did without collapsing. New Zealand is beautiful, but Dan (along with Natalie) helped make our experience there really fabulous. I had a conversation with him about this at one point during the trip: He inspired us with confidence, so we trusted him from the moment we left the airport." "Dan "Duck" was a wonderful guide. He was knowledgeable, patient and fun. He thought of your needs even before you did!" "Who said a small group isn't as much fun as a bigger group! Ask Dan, our intrepid trip leader, we were a group of 4, but we fit in so much more. We got going a tad faster, we were all the timely and organized types, so we got in a bit of extra fun here and there thanks to a super creative and awesome trip leader. Thank you for that little bit of extra everything! Dan was the highlight of the trip for me. Great guide, although fairly new at Active, he has all the qualities in a man I'd love to marry. Kidding. But really, he was mature, can cook, can drive, had killer stories, good jokes, maturity." "The trip was more than I could have expected -- the landscape sells itself, but the amazing care provided by our guides and the lodging facilities was an unexpected surprise. Dan was fantastic, full of energy, very straight forward on the days' events and expectations, always on time. His patience with some members of the group was remarkable. I could tell he enjoyed the job and was just being himself versus being 'nice'." "Dan was EXCELLENT. He is extremely knowledgeable and accommodating. I asked various questions about the country and culture and if he didn't know the answer, he always made a point to find out the answer for me. He also has a great sense of humor and kept the team motivated and excited." "Dan was great! He was very personable, patient, accomodating, and attentive. He ran a tight ship, which I liked, because we didn't end up wasting a lot of time waiting for people who were late. He kept us well-informed and responded to many, many questions. The guides were great and really made the trip I think." |
